For the new additions to our guest room, I applied 2 of my favorite design tips: 1) don’t be afraid to mix bold uses of color, and 2) don’t be afraid to be persistent and wear your partner down until you get what you want. From the moment we settled on Palm from @Farrow & Ball as the paint color for the guest room, I knew I wanted to add these green curtains from @Nordic Knots (The Grand in Eau De Nil) to further play up the color drench of the entire room. We came up with the design (or at least, the first iteration of the design 😅) for our guest room in March. And we’ve been putting every free second we’ve had (over the course of the the last two months) into working on the space. It’s truly been a labor of love. We’ve spent both of our birthdays working in the guest room, every free weekend, and cancelled plans to skim-coat, paint, and hone our renovation skills. We probably don’t discuss how much work it is very often, or really at all — but it’s a LOT of work. We always try our best to have fun with the process, learn, and not second-guess ourselves, but it can feel all-consuming and overwhelming at times (insert 3 cleansing breaths here). As we near the end of this room, we’re feeling capable and reassured. We just did that… We painted our entire guest room GREEN 💚 and more specifically, Palm from @Farrow & Ball. The journey that led us to color drenching the entire guest room in green began with our desire to bring elements of the lush canyon that surrounds us inside – the only problem was finding and, if we're being completely honest, agreeing on the perfect shade. Enter Krista, an in-home Colour Consultancy with Farrow & Ball.    Over the course of an hour, we walked the Consultant through our entire home, taking into account all light levels, architectural details, and existing features of each space. And, when we got to the guest room, which is flooded with natural light for most of the day, she looked to the Archive collection. Still waiting for the pool 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♂️ This front terrace has been a big question mark ever since we bought our house last year. Do we put in raised garden beds? Maybe sod? Or do we just landscape it entirely? We’re leaning towards a raised garden bed, but the unique shape of the space presents its own set of challenges. We host bridal showers now 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ This was the most people we’ve ever hosted at our house! But after an entire summer working on our backyard, it felt amazing to finally welcome friends and family to celebrate my sister’s upcoming nuptials. Here’s what we did. The theme was “Provence,” where my sister Katie got engaged last year (although you could say, the theme really was “California backyard” 🤣😂), and we invited 14 of her closest friends and family for brunch. We served quiche, roasted potatoes and salad, plus endless rosé! Afterwards, we invited our guests to take part in a few activities — albeit, we’re not well-versed in bridal shower games 😅😅 On the side yard, our guests planted their own lavender in terracotta pots to take home as party favors, and as a nod to Provence and prosperity. And then on our front terrace, we had our guests write words of encouragement, love, and wisdom on stones. Lavender thrives in rocky soil, so we had our guests place their stones in the bottom of the bride-to-be’s own lavender pot, serving as a foundation for her lavender to grow strong. It was such a beautiful day! We’ve been waiting for a moment like this ever since we bought our house last year.
