This tiny crustacean invader attaches to the gills of native mud shrimp, slowly draining them of energy until they can't reproduce—and sometimes even killing them outright. Scientists believe these parasites hitched a ride on ships from Asia, and since their arrival, they've devastated mud shrimp populations along the Pacific Northwest.
