On March 25th 1997, Liverpool were awarded a penalty for a foul by David Seaman on Robbie Fowler. The penalty was protested not only by Seaman but also by Fowler. After the referee pointed to the spot Fowler immediately told the referee he’d made the wrong decision and that no foul occurred but the referee was insistent that the penalty was awarded. Fowler, who had scored 6 of 7 penalties in his career to that point, placed a soft penalty at a nice height for Seaman who made the save however Jason McAteer followed in with the rebound. Liverpool won 2-1. Fowler later received a UEFA Fair Play Certificate for his honesty and consequent miss. #footballtiktok #football #Soccer #liverpool
