Let’s talk about draping!! This is the MOST popular question I see amongst old and young sewing people alike: how do you take a draped dress off the mannequin, sew it together and wear it? Well the answer is HANDSEWING!! for the most part you’ll need to hand sew all around the pieces you draped to create the ‘stitch line’ area that you’ll be actually sewing down on the mannequin. This is especially important for pleats, gathers, etc that need to be secured before being sewn to another piece. I REALLY like draping and sewing from a drape, bc it allows me to just jump right and and go from there, but it takes some patience and practice to understand the mechanics! Having a dress form that is the perfect measurements for you or whomever you’re sewing for comes in super handy when you’re doing draping as it’ll be well fitted to the person that way. With draping it’s all about practice and creativity. There is no wrong way to create and play with fabric! Was this helpful? #tutorial #fantasyfashion #sewing #sewingtiktok #sewingtutorial
Lambswool, ice wool, domette, etc, this wool layer between the boning and the outer fabric is a nifty way to create a smooth finish that looks stunning and striking! We see it a bit in pad stitching, a technique used in suit making that helps stabilize areas like lapels and collars, and now we see this being translated over into couture fashion! Personally I love the way these ultra smooth, slightly puffy garments look, and I have used it a few times to really give pieces a soft finish! If you are short on cash or don’t want to use wool sheets (which are made by shearing sheep and chaotically matting the fibers down btw which is ethical) you can try bamboo batting or cotton batting, so long as they are natural fibers that can be shaped with heat and steam! Would you give this a try? . PLEASE NOTE: when searching up ‘ice wool’ materials on the internet you will find them for sale but they are also listed under an offensive term for Inuit people. This can be uncomfortable to some and I just wanted to give you that warning and hopefully we can change the name of this material soon. #sewingforkids #sewingtutorial #lambswool #icewool #couture
I started crafting way before I started sewing, and that snowballed into the incredible career today. From my first hand beaded piece to walk the runway in 2016 at the her universe fashion show, to winning that event four years three years later…it’s been so much fun to look back and see how far I’ve come and how far I will get to go! #sewingtutorial #cosplay #sewing #sewingtiktok
Making armor for the FINAL time 🤨 this was such a freaking nightmare….i struggled maybe way more with the 3D print version over the foam version, but for entirely different reasons. I have a new respect for people who make armor now 🫡🫡🫡 #cosplay #renfaire
Understitch! Popular for garments that are woven, garments with linings and even some couture, this clean edge technique will keep your lining fabric hidden and your fashion fabric crisp and clean! This was THE first thing my mom taught me about making dresses and clothes, and you’d think for being the first skill I got I’d be better at it 🤪 but it’s always going to be a work in progress around here, and I hope some of the information I shared helps you guys make gorgeous necklines and lining lines too! #sewingforkids #sewingtutorial
How to make cake clothes!! Have you ever wanted to eat your clothes? Then let me help by introducing you to decoden cream, a silicone glue clay combo that looks and feels just like icing (I don’t know if it tastes like it so lmk) and it’s flexible, fun and a great addition to costumes, cosplays and clothes for the ball! #sewingtutorial #sewingforkids #cosplay #renfaire #cottagecore #isitcake #cake
The respect I have for jewelry makers? Absolutely through the roof right now. Maybe my fingers are just too nubby for it, or maybe I need many MANY more years of practice, but to make these earrings was no small feat, and they don’t even look THAT good 😭 I will wear them tho, bc I am not gonna let my hard work just hang on an earring stand forever, but hats off to the Lola Tapicoa Pearls and ALL Athe incredible jewelry artists out there for making such gorgeous delicate work 😍 #jewelry #jewelrymaking #animalcrossing #lilyofthevalley
I made my mom a jacket!! Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who taught me to sew, she’s been asking for a jacket for a while and I had to keep it a secret until now! This jacket was made with silks and leathers, everything laser cut and meticulously handsewn on. I left space on the front for her to add her collection of bee pins (she collects bee pins!) I know she’ll be wearing this jacket for years to come 🫶🏻 do you think she loved it 🥹 #mothersday
Let’s talk hip fins! I get a few asks of how I draft and add the fins bc honestly, every single one is a different shape. You can draft them on a mannequin or on yourself, but they are fun and simple way to add dynamic shape to any outfit! Do you like hip fins? #sewingforkids #sewingtutorial #cottagecore #knightcore
