We got to witness baby turtles being released into the ocean, and it was one of the most incredible things we’ve ever seen. Only 1 in 1,000 will survive, that’s such a heartbreaking stat. But watching them instinctively charge toward the water, completely unaware of the dangers ahead, was such a reminder of how wild and precious life is. It’s unforgiving, it’s short, but man, it’s beautiful. And seeing a fully grown turtle after knowing what it had to survive? That hit different. It made me think, no matter the odds, we just keep going.
One of the most meaningful pieces we’ve ever performed, Elastic Heart by @Sia , will always hold a special place in both of our hearts. It wasn’t just choreography… it was a personal story, told through movement and shared between siblings. Creating and dancing this piece alongside two young, extraordinary dancers made the experience even more special . It also marked the beginning of a long and beautiful collaborative relationship with the brilliant @Tessandra Chavez , someone who continues to inspire us and push our artistry in so many ways. When the piece finished there was a standing Ovation, we looked over and saw Kobe Bryant in the front row , smiling and telling us how much he loves and is a fan of dance . We were lucky enough to take this piece on the road during our second national tour, performing it across 70 cities, and eventually, it became part of a moment that led to an Emmy Award. But more than any award or applause, dance has given us something far greater. It’s been a source of healing, expression, connection, and purpose. We’re endlessly grateful, for the moments that shaped us, the people who believed in us, and the gift of dance itself.
