The reality of a Foster Care/Adoptive Family… Today, I got the call from a social worker about an emergency foster placement, and as always, my kids were the first to know. When I sat my kids down to tell them a social worker called about an emergency placement, their first reaction was curiosity. They had so many questions-How old are they? What do they like? When are they coming?—but underneath it all was something deeper: love. They know what it feels like to be the 'new kid' They know the mix of emotions-fear, uncertainty, hope. And that's why their hearts are always open, ready to make someone feel at home, no matter how long they stay. Foster care isn't easy. It's unpredictable, emotional, and sometimes heartbreaking.
