House Democrat and unapologetic activist, Jasmine Crockett, showed her iconic side yet again by playing a game she coined, called “Trump or trans”, during a chaotic trans athlete hearing. The 44-year-old Texas Congressional member hit out at Republicans aiming to paint trans people as inherently dangerous during the Wednesday (7 May) Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) hearing on the inclusion of trans athletes in female competitions. The hearing, dubbed “Unfair Play: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” was scheduled after a cisgender female fencer was disqualified for refusing to compete against a trans opponent. US fencer Stephanie Turner was shown a black card in March for refusing to compete against fellow opponent Red Sullivan in a foil tournament at the University of Maryland. Officials chose to disqualify Turner for violating an International Fencing Federation (FIE) policy which disallows fencers from refusing to compete against any properly entered fencer for any reason. Crockett, who was among the panel of committee members, held nothing back during the proceedings, criticising the hearing at its core for having “nothing to do with improving Government efficiency.” During Crockett’s turn to speak, she asked witness and National Women’s Law Center CEO, Fatima Goss Graves, to play a game she invented called “Trump or trans.” “So I’m gonna ask you a few questions and I want you to tell me who was responsible [between US president Donald Trump or trans people], understand? Okay,” she said. Crockett then began asking who was behind a series of issues across the US, including “gutting medical research,” “kidnapping Americans and sending them to foreign countries, AKA, deporting,” “driving us into a recession,” “increasing the cost of everything,” and “waging an idiotic terror war.” Responding, Goss Graves answered that Donald Trump was responsible for every single example Crockett gave. After listing off a cavalcade of extra examples, Crockett finished by saying the committee’s time could be used on “fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement,” but was instead being used on non-issues like trans athletics. “So let’s talk about waste,” she continued. “Let’s talk about how Trump spent almost $100 million on his little birthday parade, or how he spent 25 per cent of his first 100 days in office golfing, costing taxpayers tens of millions of dollars – in fact it’s a little over $30 million in our last estimation. In fact, Trump is on pace to spend more than $1 billion of taxpayers money just on golfing. “The Republicans have been silent, so they must think spending taxpayer dollars on the president’s golfing trips is more important than providing healthcare to their constituents.” #donaldtrump #transrights #jasminecrockett #uspolitics #republicans #lgbtqia
Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic church, has di3d aged 88. Pope Francis has di3d and left behind an erratic legacy on his support for the LGBTQ+ community as head of the Catholic Church. His d3ath was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell in a statement released by the Vatican on Monday (21 April). In the statement he said: “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the d3ath of our Holy Father Francis. “At 7.35am this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church. “He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage and universal love, especially in favour of the poorest and most marginalised. “With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God.” The pontiff became Pope in 2013 after Benedict XVI resigned. In recent years, concern has increased about the health of Pope Francis and in February he was admitted to hospital for treatment for bronchitis. Later that month, after being diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, the Vatican said he was in a ‘critical’ condition. His hospital stay ended on 23 March but his health remained delicate. On Easter Sunday (20 April), the Pope greeted worshippers who gathered in the Vatican’s St Peter’s Square. Speaking to the crowds from the balcony of St Peter’s Basilica, he said: “Dear brothers and sisters, happy Easter.” #popefrancis #thepope #pope #lgbtqia #lgbtqrights #vatican
"Andy that’s not true” 😬 Texas Republican Andy Hopper was schooled by Democratic Rep. Lauren Ashley Simmons on what intersex means during a debate in the Texas House of Representatives on Friday 11 April. Hopper was proposing an amendment to eliminate state funding for the University of Texas at Austin over its LGBTQ+ and DEI programs and degree plans, claiming that they taught there were "more than two sexes". In response, Simmons asked "what about intersex individuals?", to which Hopper replied "I don't even know what that means, ma'am." The Democrat went on to say: "You are not sure what intersex people are, if they exist or not, but you want to defund a program about something that you don't understand". Hopper replied: "Those intersex individuals are still XX or XY. So, you can't change that." In a now viral moment, this comment prompted Republican Rep. Valoree Swanson to tug on Hopper's sleeve and say to him "Andy, that's not true." According to the Intersex Society of North America, there are over 40 known intersex variations. The most common are due to differences in chromosomes, such as Turner syndrome (X0), Klinefelter syndrome (XXY), and triple X syndrome (XXX). Following the exchange, Simmons filed a point of order against Hopper, and the House ultimately voted against the amendment. #republicans #intersex #texas #andyhopper #uspolitics #lgbtqia
US President Donald Trump blasted Village People’s ‘YMCA’, which has been labelled by many as a “gay anthem”, at a conference in Saudi Arabia. Trump was joined by the Saudia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the Saudi-U.S. Investment Forum. In Saudi Arabia, same-sex relations are illegal and in some cases carry the d3ath penalty. Last year, the Village People lyricist Victor Willis praised Donald Trump’s use of “YMCA” during campaign rallies, and threatened legal action against media outlets calling the group’s hit song a gay anthem, despite two of the original band members being out gay men. #donaldtrump #saudiarabia🇸🇦 #mohammedbinsalman #ymca #lgbtqia
Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke has been given a formal warning by Celebrity Big Brother producers after “homophobic” comments about and to JoJo Siwa. In scenes that will air in tonight’s Celebrity Big Brother episode (9 April), The Wrestler star Rourke suggests to “Karma” singer Siwa that he would be able to turn her straight. After she rebuffs his insinuation, he then tells fellow housemate and former Love Island star Chris Hughes that he will be “vote the lesbian out real quick”. The interaction begins with Rourke asking JoJo Siwa whether she “likes girls or boys”, to which she responds: “Me? Girls. My partner is non-binary.” In a grim response, Rourke says: “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore.” Without missing a beat, Siwa expertly responds: “I can guarantee I’ll still be gay and I’ll still be in a very happy relationship.” Later on, Rourke tells Hughes that when it comes to having evict other housemates, he will do his best to “vote the lesbian out”. Siwa overhears the interaction, and responds: “That’s homophobic, if that was your reasoning.” Sadly, the offensive comments don’t stop there, with the Oscar nominee telling his fellow housemates that he “needs a f**”, before gesturing towards Siwa and saying: “I’m not talking to you.” The actor is then called to the Celebrity Big Brother Diary Room, where he is told that he has received a formal warning over his comments. “Further language or behaviour of this nature could lead to you being removed from the Big Brother house,” he is told. Following the warning, Rourke apologises both to Big Brother, urging that he doesn’t “have dishonourable intentions”, and then apologises to a visibly upset Siwa in person. “As a future,” Siwa responds, “using the word f** is not an acceptable word”. The other housemates – including Hughes, Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard and TV host Trisha Goddard – then attempt to educate Rourke on why his comments were deemed offensive. Celebrity Big Brother continues at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX. #cbbuk #celebritybigbrother #bigbrother #mickeyrourke #jojosiwa #lgbtqia

Why are these trans women going viral outside a military recruitment center in Thailand? Thailand’s annual military conscription event is a highly anticipated moment for Thai men aged 21 to 26. Each year, they gather at local recruitment centers to determine their fate through a national lottery. Everyone receives an envelope - and inside is either a red card or a black card. Red means you’re selected for military service. Black means you’re exempt. However, a new viral tradition has emerged within Thailand’s trans community. While transgender individuals are still required to show up in person for the draft lottery, they can be exempt from service if they provide a gender reassignment certificate or relevant medical documents. Each year, trans women across the country head to recruitment centers to submit their paperwork - often turning the moment into a celebration, complete with photoshoots proudly holding their certificates outside the recruitment centre. While it remains illegal for trans people to serve in Thailand’s military, this annual tradition has turned into a powerful symbol of pride for the country's trans community. #thailand #transwomen #militarytiktok #militaryservice #transrights #lgbtqia #Adoteumhabitinho

New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde has opened up about her gender identity in a new interview with Rolling Stone, explaining how she responded to fellow musician Chappell Roan asking if she was non-binary. In the wide-ranging chat with the iconic music magazine, Lorde discussed how her gender expression has “broadened” and how that has influenced her upcoming album, Virgin. Lorde told Rolling Stone that she is “in the middle gender-wise,” and referenced a chat she had with her friend Chappell Roan. The lesbian pop superstar asked Lorde, very directly if she was non-binary; Lorde replied, “I’m a woman except for the days when I’m a man.” “I know that’s not a very satisfying answer but there’s a part of me that is really resistant to boxing it up,” she went on to tell the Rolling Stone interviewer. Lorde explained that she first started to think more broadly about her gender in 2023. She tried on a pair of men’s jeans and sent the photo to her Virgin collaborator Jim-E Stack. He responded “I want to see the you that’s in this picture represented in the music.” #lorde #chappellroan #genderidentity #nonbinarytiktok #lgbtqia

Anna Camp has confirmed she is “dating a woman”, telling fans that her relationship with her girlfriend is “great!” The Pitch Perfect star, who was recently praised by fans for her dual performance in Netflix’s You, made the comments about her dating life during a resurfaced TikTok video from earlier in the year. The video from user Mr.Big.USA shows Camp and a woman, who has reportedly been identified as Jade Whipkey, describing their worst date ever. “I left a date once because a guy was like 45 minutes late and I stayed and waited,” Camp began. “And then he said that I was prettier in a movie than I was in person, because I’m an actor,” said the star. “And I was like, ‘Okay, bye!’” The pair were then asked what they expect from a guy on the first date, to which Camp responded: “I don’t expect anything, not anymore! Because I’m dating a woman, and it’s great.” Camp also appeared to soft-launch their relationship, with the actress tagging Whipkey in a photo on a recent story and writing, “Date Night”. Whipkey, who served as the stylist for season two of T and Coco, also appeared to echo the sentiment on her story. “Her smile is a poem, her eyes are roses, her laugh is music for dancing,” she wrote atop a photo of Camp on her Instagram story on Monday (12 May). Although Anna Camp has not labelled her identity, the actress did appear to suggest in the resurfaced TikTok that she no longer dates men. Camp has also been married twice to men. In 2013, Camp divorced fellow actor Michael Mosley after their three-year marriage. Then, in 2016, the star married her Pitch Perfect co-star Skylar Astin (who played Jesse Swanson in the franchise). They divorced in 2019. A few of Camp’s fellow Pitch Perfect co-stars are part of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2019, Dear Evan Hansen actor Ben Platt came out as gay, while Rebel Wilson announced her relationship in 2022 with now-wife Ramona Agruma after being threatened to be outed by a Sydney Morning Herald journalist. #lgtbqia #wlwrelationship #pitchperfect #you #dating #Relationship #annacamp
