Two male flamingos have adopted a chick after successfully hatching an egg together at San Diego Zoo Safari Park in California. Earlier this year, the same-sex bird couple impressed zookeepers with their parenting skills after they were given a dummy egg to sit on. Eventually, the specialists gave them a real egg, which hatched in September and is now “thriving”. In a social media post, the zoo said that the flamingo couple “has perfected their fatherly duties by alternating brooding responsibilities and keeping the chick satisfied thanks to a hearty helping of crop milk every day”. The pair feed their chick crop “milk” from their upper digestive tract, and that “both males and females can feed the chick this way”, even flamingos that are not the parents. The two foster dads are both in their 40s and are lesser flamingos, a species found in sub-Saharan Africa and western India, according to the zoo. The chick is also a lesser flamingo. But this isn’t the first time a same-sex flamingo couple have become parents to an adopted chick. Drew Starkey has explained why he had no hesitation in playing a gay role alongside Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino’s latest film, Queer. The film features Knives Out star Craig as William Lee, an outcast American expat in 40s Mexico, who spends his days doing drugs and drinking, and whose life is turned upside down when he becomes infatuated with younger former serviceman Eugene Allerton (Starkey). The pair become very close over the course of the film, getting their kit off and taking a trip to Southern America to sample a hallucinogenic drug. And it’s a role that’s getting Starkey a lot of notice – not least because of the seggs scenes. Speaking exclusively to PinkNews at the London Film Festival, Starkey says that there was, “no, no, no hesitation in the slightest,” about taking the part. He adds that “Getting the opportunity to collaborate with someone like Luca, Daniel, Jason [Schwartzman] and Lesley [Manville] and [costume designer] JW Anderson and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes” were key draws for the role. Wayans, who has that trans child Kai is the “same” person they were before but with a “beard now”, has admitted – not for the first time – that he wasn’t always as accepting of his son. Speaking to Blocks podcast host Neal Brennan about learning to accept his son’s transition, the actor said: “I tried to hypnotise that b**ch. I protested against it and I don’t say that with pride. I look back on those actions and I’m ashamed. I was embarrassed the moment I was forced to look in the mirror.” Hypnotic conversion therapy has been used since the 19th century. Alongside other conversion practices, it has been condemned as a supposed method of forcing LGBTQ+ individuals to change their sexual orientation or gender identity, Psychology Today reported. Earlier this month, the UK government confirmed it is prioritising a full, trans-inclusive ban of the practices. The Scary Movie star, who revealed last year that one of his children was transgender, added that he had also imposed “sanctions” on Kai in a bid to prevent them transitioning. “[Kai] was like: ‘So what? Online, Vance’s eye-enhancing methods, real or not, have been a hotly-debated topic for some time. Seemingly, the speculation about Vance’s eyeliner began in July when journalist James Surowiecki quote-tweeted a clip of Vance from a September 2021 video interview. “Why does JD Vance always look like he’s wearing eyeliner?” Surowiecki wrote. “He doesn’t really seem like the goth-boy type.” In both studio and more low-key interviews, Vance consistently appears to have a dark eyeliner effect.
