I always thought I was shy, but after my autism diagnosis, I realized I’m not shy at all—I just communicate differently and find social conversations more challenging. #autism #autismawareness #neurodivergent #MentalHealth
Here are some self-accommodations I utilize as an autistic person that you may not have considered to be accommodations. 💛 #autism #neurodivergent #autistic #MentalHealth #selflove
A non-exhaustive list of random things that cause me to feel really overwhelmed as an autistic person. What else would you add? #autism #sensoryoverload #autistic #neurodivergent
As I continue to learn more about how autism affects me specifically, I have realized that accepting these things and utilizing accommodations that support me is key. Days like today are common. They usually happen after an unexpected change in routine, when too many demands are placed on me, when I experience extreme sensory overload, or when my brain is processing a lot of stress. In the past, I would try to push through them, only to end up having a shutdown or even a meltdown. Now I’m starting to recognize the importance of simply allowing these days to exist. This is my reality. It’s part of my experience as a human. It’s not good or bad. It just is. All I can do is embrace these days the best I can, understanding that rest is necessary for my body and mind so that I don’t eventually burn out. This is a practice, and it takes time to unlearn the societal pressure that rest is unproductive. For me, as an autistic person, rest is actually one of the most productive things I can do. #autism #autistic #autisticburnout #autisticshutdown #executivefunctioning #neurodivergence #rest
Covert stims I’ve done my whole life without even realizing they were stims. Stimming is a natural way for autistic people to regulate. I think growing up, I subconsciously minimized many of my stims to seem more socially acceptable and normal. I also have some more apparent stims which I’ll share in a future video. 💛 #autism #stimming #autisticstims #neurodivergent #autisticmind #sensoryregulation #selfregulation #autisticcreator #ndcommunity #autisticexpression #masking #unmaskingautism #neurodivergentlife #autisticperspective
#ad Loud sounds are one of my biggest sensory triggers, but can also be soothing depending on the source. 🎧 (this fidget is the ONO roller… code TREVOR) #autism #autistic #neurodivergent #sensoryoverload
Our relationship is unlike anything I’ve seen modeled before. And that’s what makes it so perfect for us. 💛 #neurodivergent #autism #autistic #audhd #adhd #autisticlove #autisticadult #Love #wedding #marriage
‘High functioning’ autism means that there are times where I’m able to “pretend” that I’m not autistic. Inauthenticity aside, this pretending takes an incredible amount of energy, effort, and brain power. There comes a time where I can’t pretend anymore and I burnout. This is why I prefer to use support needs levels as opposed to functioning labels. #autism #autistic #asd #neurodivergent #highfunctioningautism #MentalHealth
Having alone time is crucial for my mental health and well-being as an autistic person. The world often feels so overwhelming, and being alone is the only time I can truly rest and recharge. #autism #autistic #neurodivergent #MentalHealth #healing
Honestly, I don’t see a point to social interaction unless there something to be accomplished from that conversation. 🤷🏼♂️ #autism #neurodivergent #autistic
