Haram Things in Muslim Weddings ☪️ pt2 : Daily Islamic Self Reminder 1.Taking Photos: There are two forbidden matters in your taking pictures. Firstly, it is something whose permissibility is not agreed upon among the scholars. Many people of knowledge consider it Haram, as the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Image-makers will be in hell-fire. For every picture they made Allah will create a soul that will keep on punishing him in hell-fire." (Reported by Muslim and others.) Allah knows best. 2:Gaye hould: Turmeric, known as Haldi in India is the sacred spice recognized for its health, beauty, and spiritual properties. Turmeric holds a special place in Indian Hindu weddings and that is quite apparent from the fact that one entire ceremony before the wedding day is named after this golden spice and is called Haldi Ceremony. [1] As Muslims, we are sensitive to our Aqaaid (beliefs) and Tauheed (Oneness of Allah) and abstain from whatever would contaminate our Imaan. Consider the following hadeeth: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ “ ‏The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Whoever imitates a nation will be amongst them. (Sunan-Abu Dawood, Kitaab-Al-Libaas) It is not permissible to emulate the Hindu and apply turmeric powder on to the wedding couple 3. Music: It is not permissible to attend wedding parties that include reprehensible things such as singing accompanied by drums or other musical instruments, apart from the daff, or mixing between men and women, or other evils, except for one who is able to denounce that and thinks it most likely that he will be able to put a stop to the evil by denouncing it. Ibn Qudaamah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: If a person is invited to a waleemah in which there is sin, such as alcohol and musical instruments, etc, and he can denounce it and put an end to the evil, then he must attend and denounce it, because then he will be fulfilling two obligations: accepting the invitation of his Muslim brother and putting a stop to evil. But if he is unable to denounce it, then he should not attend. If he does not know of the evil until he gets there, then he should put a stop to it, and if he is not able to, then he should leave. Something similar to this was said by al-Shaafa’i. End quote from al-Mughni, 7/214. 4.Dancing: it is not permissible for women to dance in front of men, non-mahrams, mahrams or women, because of the fitnah that may be caused by the movements of the body. ‘Abd-Allah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “No woman should look at another woman then describe her to her husband so that it is as if he can see her.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 4839) 5: Dowry : Dowry is completely haram in the religion of Islam. In Islam, the family of the girl should not even use a penny for the wedding expenses. The responsibility of wedding expenses is totally on the man, without pressuring the girl’s family. The global dowry system promotes groom taking of wealth from the family of the bride in order to marry her. In todays world, this is highly practised among everyone, but when it comes to Islam, it is clearly prohibited. Any Muslim man who takes dowry from the spouse family then it is considered a sin in Islam. Instead of girl, the man needs to give dowery to the girl in order to marry her as per Islam. This is the command of Allah SWT, which is called Mahr. In order to marry the potential spouse, the man needs to pay the mahr to the girl. This is an obligation for marriage in Islam. Muslim families cannot fix the marriage without the discussion of mahr. Allah SWT has commanded men to pay the mahr, in order to marry the bride. And give the women (on marriage) their dower as a free gift; but if they of their own good pleasure remit any part of it to you take it and enjoy it with right good cheer.
