Chilas, the headquarters of District Diamer in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, sizzled under extreme heat as temperatures soared to 48.5°C (119.3°F), marking one of the hottest days ever recorded in the area. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PakMet), temperatures in both Chilas and nearby Bunji hovered around 46°C the previous day. PakMet has also issued an alert warning of potential Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in the region, due to rising temperatures accelerating glacier melt.
