Sharing the wealth with my neighbors 💕 You may have looked at the baby’s breath and thought “isn’t that poisonous”? I found a lot of baking blogs talking about it being poisonous but I needed to see a reliable source mentioned which I couldn’t find until Wikipedia and ScienceDirect. Baby’s breath is known to have saponin, which is mildly poisonous to humans BUT a 1991 study found that saponin remains in the root and does not spread to the rest of the plant as assumed for this particular plant. Saponin is also used in soap, shampoo, and medicinally like cough syrup. Some parts of the world use it in food. Without that knowledge, it makes sense as to why bakers have been afraid of using them. Some will not take the risk. They are still inedible flowers after all which means an upset stomach if you consume a lot of it… I hope you’re not doing that. I covered up most of the cookie so they wouldn’t touch, but some parts still do. I wouldn’t give any flowers to someone with general sensitivity/allergies to flowers either if you’re afraid of skin irritation, but my neighbors were fine. Do what you will with that info 🫶🏼✨
