We please ask that you read this before commenting: If we get a call that a gravid snake has laid her clutch on someones property and they want her to be removed (usually due to pets, construction or fear) this is what we do! If we attempt to relocate mum and her eggs together out into the wild, only about half of the eggs will actually hatch, whereas when we take them to be incubated at the zoo, there is a 99% survival success rate! Once they are hatched, we immediately take them to the most appropriate habitat within the region of where they were caught, for release. In some cases, mum is taken to the wildlife hospital with her eggs if she is quite defensive. However, majority of the time once she has come off her eggs its not the easiest to get her back on, and she may just slither off completely carefree. This does not affect mum in any way as snakes are not very maternal. The babies will be entirely solitary after hatching, which means they all part ways almost immediately to become independent. The best part is, we get to release all the bubs when they’re hatched, and you get to watch it!
